Final results of Maastricht's 4th Citizens' Budget announced: 64 projects to be implemented

17 Maastricht-based community associations received the good news tonight that their projects have secured funding through the Citizens' Budget. During a celebratory event at City Hall, the winning initiatives were revealed, bringing the total number of funded projects to 64.

Funding for 64 projects

This year, 64 projects in total received Citizens' Budget funding. Of these, 47 were immediately approved for implementation across four themes — Arts and culture, Stronger together, Greening, and Sport and physical activity — without a voting round, as the allocated budget covered them all.

However, in the Community associations theme, a vote was necessary. €181,882.96 was available for 20 eligible projects, but the total funding needed exceeded that by €34,040.77. As a result, residents were invited to vote for their favourites.

Voting numbers

Residents could vote digitally from 19–23 January and in person at the well-attended closing event held at the Theater aan het Vrijthof on Saturday.

  • Digital votes: 6,727
  • Closing event votes: 867
  • Total votes cast: 7,594

Manon Fokke, member of the municipal executive (civic participation) expressed pride once again in this year’s proposals: “The fact that this is the 4th edition of the Citizens' Budget shows how much it resonates with our communities, organisations and associations. It's wonderful to see the money being put to such good use.”
