Citizens’ Budget: 4 themes straight to implementation, Community associations projects go to voting round

Good news! Of the 83 Citizens’ Budget projects submitted this year, 67 have been assessed as feasible. An impressive 47 of these can go straight to implementation. The 20 projects under the theme 'Community associations' will proceed to a voting round in January 2026.

Most projects feasible

Residents submitted 83 ideas this year – a rich and varied mix. No fewer than 67 projects were assessed as feasible. Projects in 4 themes will move straight to implementation.

The initiators of the 47 successful projects have been informed personally. The requested funding fits within the available budget for each theme, so voting is not needed. The projects fall under the following themes:

Once again this year, the range of ideas is remarkably diverse. Many projects focus on bringing people together and strengthening neighbourhood connections. Others aim to revitalise community spaces or organise activities linked to art, reading, health and physical activity. Several projects will make neighbourhoods greener and more pleasant through trees, plants and flowers.

Online

From Monday 19 to Friday 23 January 2026, residents can vote online. The voting form will be available on the Thuis in Maastricht website. You may vote for one project and will only need an email address.

Closing event

A festive closing event will take place on Saturday 31 January 2026 at Theater aan het Vrijthof (Vrijthof 47). Residents are warmly invited to drop in between 9.30 and 12.00. You can view the projects at your own pace and talk to the associations involved. You may also cast one vote during the event.

A guided tour will also be held on the day, offering a unique behind-the-scenes look at the theatre. You can register from Monday 12 to Saturday 24 January 2026 via the Thuis in Maastricht website. Please note: the guided tour will be in Dutch.

There will also be stalls with information on topics such as the theatre, participation, arts and culture, wellbeing, sport and physical activity.

Projects on the website & final scores

All projects will be published on the Thuis in Maastricht website on Thursday 11 December 2025. This gives you the chance to see which projects you can vote for – and which projects are already set to be implemented.

After the closing event on 31 January, all votes will be counted. To encourage in-person participation, online votes will count for 40% and votes cast at the event for 60%.

The results of the voting round will be announced on Monday evening, 2 February 2026 during a celebratory gathering at City Hall. The associations will hear which projects have been awarded funding. On Tuesday 3 February, the results will also be published on the Thuis in Maastricht website.
