The areas and districts of Maastricht
Maastricht is subdivided into 7 areas. On this page you'll find an overview of the 7 areas and the districts belonging to each area.
North Maastricht
This area consists of the following districts: Beatrixhaven · Borgharen · Itteren · Limmel · Meerssenhoven · Nazareth. The area includes the northernmost and most rural part of Maastricht. North Maastricht lies on the eastern bank of the river Maas on low ground. The Kanjel stream runs through the area. North Maastricht borders the Belgian municipality of Lanaken and the Dutch municipality of Meerssen.
East Maastricht
This area consists of the following districts: Amby· Heer · Scharn · Wittevrouwenveld · Wyckerpoort. East Maastricht lies on the eastern bank of the river Maas. The train tracks north and south of Maastricht train station form part of the western border of East Maastricht.
South Maastricht
This area consists of the following districts: De Heeg · Heugem · Heugemerveld · Randwyck · Vroendaal. The area is located on the eastern bank of the river Maas. The river Maas forms the western border and the road N278 forms the northern border of South Maastricht. In the southeast, the area borders the municipality of Eijsden-Margraten.
Central Maastricht
This area consists of the following districts: Binnenstad · Boschstraatkwartier · Statenkwartier · Kommelkwartier · Jekerkwartier · Sint Maartenspoort · Wyck. It is the central part of Maastricht and lies on both sides of the river Maas. The singels – streets that used to belong to the former ring of Maastricht – form part of the border on the western bank of the Maas.
South West Maastricht
This area consists of the following districts: Biesland · Campagne · Jekerdal · Sint Pieter · Villapark · Wolder. South West Maastricht is located between the river Maas in the east and the Albert canal in the southwest.
West Maastricht
This area consists of the following districts: Belfort · Brusselsepoort · Daalhof · Dousberg-Hazendans · Malberg · Mariaberg. West Maastricht lies on the western bank of the river Maas. The eastern border of the area is very narrow and consists of Hertogsingel and a small part of Statensingel. The southern border roughly coincides with road 278 (Tongerseweg). The western border of West Maastricht is the municipal border and the national border with Belgium.
North West Maastricht
This area consists of the following districts: Belvédère · Bosscherveld · Boschpoort · Caberg · Frontenkwartier · Lanakerveld · Malpertuis · Oud-Caberg · Pottenberg. The area is located on the western bank of the river Maas. The river Maas is the eastern border of the district where the river meanders around the village of Borgharen. Statensingel, Frontensingel and the former junction of the Noorderbrug form the southern border.
